The Emmaline’s Country Kitchen Story

Emmaline’s Country Kitchen began 20 years ago, when Andrew and Susan Horwood started selling homemade cakes and biscuits to local stores in Lobethal, South Australia.

The appeal of the homemade product made it an immediate success.

“We started the business in our home kitchen, much to my wife’s displeasure,” says Andrew. “We produced them for some stores, and were absolutely blown away by the response from people wanting a better product, we actually had to control the growth – that was our biggest challenge.”

As the business has grown, the Lobethal community has embraced the Horwood family. “We support the community by purchasing fruit and veg locally,” says Susan. “Our sons, Simon and David Horwood have grown up with Emmaline’s desserts, and now work for the company.”

“Our apple crumble is one I’ve grown up with and had at all my birthday parties over the years,” says David. “It was Nanna’s recipe and something I have always loved. We have managed to make it work, and it’s now a really popular product.”

With Drakes’ support, Emmaline’s are now nationwide. “Drakes has been a very important part of our business,” says Andrew. “We wanted our products in supermarkets and Drakes gave us this opportunity. Drakes have been very supportive and continue to work with us on our journey.”

Drakes Supermarkets proudly stock Emmaline’s products.
